In the wake of the Campa Cola case, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Monday wrote to Union Housing Minister Girija Vyas to press for presidential assent to the Maharashtra Housing (Regulation and Development) Bill 2012.
Mr. Chavan pointed out that the Campa Cola construction had violated development control rules. When the Supreme Court passed demolition orders, flat-owners got upset.
In order to prevent such cases, it was all the more important to have a strong regulatory mechanism.
The Bill makes it mandatory for developers to reveal all details of construction and to register the flats sold.
A regulatory authority set up by the State would monitor the transactions. Mr. Chavan said he had earlier written to the Centre in July 2012 and May 2013 pressing for assent to the Bill.
