The Goa police are confident of filing a charge sheet against accused Tehelka editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal, facing charges of sexual assault, in the next one-and-a-half months. Mr. Parrikar said the case would be tried by a fast-track court headed by a lady judge, as per the High Court’s recommendation for such cases.
Replying to questions on the case at his Cabinet briefing on Wednesday at the State Secretariat, Mr. Parrikar said the government woud not only ensure justice to the victim who showed courage in coming forward to lodge her complaint, but also “ensure justice even to Tejpal”.
“He is only an accused at this stage. Fair investigation will be conducted in the matter. Thereafter, it is for the court to decide,” said Mr. Parrikar. He denied the charge that there was interference in the police investigation. Neither had he come under pressure from anybody. “I go by the law. I have given absolute and total authority to the Investigating Officer,” he said
