The Opposition stalled the proceedings demanding the resignations of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister

Normality could not be restored in Odisha Assembly even on Wednesday as the Opposition legislators stalled the proceedings demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on the controversy over the chit fund scam.

The Assembly has been witnessing uproarious scenes for more than a week with both the ruling BJD and the Opposition confronting each other over the issue.

The all-party meeting convened by Speaker Niranjan Pujari again failed to resolve crisis that has prevented the House from functioning normally for the past several days.

The Opposition has also been critical of the remarks made by Law Minister Arun Kumar Sahoo against Leader of the Opposition Narasingha Mishra in the House. While the Congress has been demanding Mr. Patnaik’s resignation, both the Congress and the BJP have been demanding that the Chief Minister should make a statement on the chit fund scam issue to restore normality in the House.

The Opposition has been demanding removal of former High Court Judge Justice M.M. Das as head of the chit fund scam inquiry commission for his controversial remarks about the investors.

While further demanding resignation of Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Sanjay Das Burma for his alleged links with the chit fund companies, the Opposition is also seeking the Chief Minister’s response on the deposit of Rs.8 crore in the BJD’s bank account.

In another development, the Scheduled Tribe and the Scheduled Caste legislators belonging to the Opposition parties staged a dharna in front of Chief Minister’s chamber in the Assembly demanding proper implementation of the Odisha Reservation of Vacancies Act.
