Raising the issue in the Legislative Council, senior Sena MLC Diwakar Raote said, “It is a question of our pride and the Government should change the name.”

Mr. Raote said a few years ago, he was assured by the then Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh that the name would be changed.

“However, the Government has not kept its promise,” Mr. Raote said.

Citing a proposal pending before the Centre over changing the names of Bombay, Madras and Calcutta High Courts, Mr. Raote said the State government should do so immediately.
