Chandrakala Padia, Vice-Chancellor of Maharaja Ganga Singh University, Bikaner, was appointed chairperson of the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla, on Friday.
She succeeds the former West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi, who resigned soon after the Lok Sabha election results were declared.
Professor Padia’s areas of specialisation include political theory, Indian and Western political thought, women’s studies, Gandhian studies and human rights.
