The north eastern states should adopt a common strategy for development, Sikkim Chief Minister, Pawan Kumar Chamling said on Friday.

Formulation of strategies for people oriented development was the need of the hour, Mr. Chamling told the maiden summit of the North-East MP Forum (NEMPF) here.

Union Minister of State for Water Resources, Vincent Pala said all States of the region should work together to build a powerful civil society to counter insurgency.

“This is required to speed up development process in the region,” Mr. Pala said after inaugurating the day—long summit.

The summit was marred by low attendance with only 15 out of 39 Members of Parliament attending it.
