Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has said he is hopeful that the central government would sanction special industrial package for Jammu and Kashmir on the pattern of North-East States.
“We have already taken up this issue with the concerned Union Ministry and we are thankful that Union Government is extending every help to Jammu and Kashmir in its endeavours to carry forward the stupendous agenda of equitable and comprehensive development,” he said addressing a function organised by Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) here on Thursday.
Underlining the importance of close rapport between the government and various chamber and industrial organisations to help boost industrial growth in the State, Mr. Omar said, “Both should work supplementary to each other to strive for sustained growth and development of trade and industries in the State.”
Mr. Omar advised the Chamber of commerce to organize seminars, workshops and interaction sessions on various subjects relating to the growth and development of trade, industries and commerce to evolve strategies and recommendations for the progress of this sector.
He said Private Public Partnership (PPP) models for joint ventures by government and the investors can be worked out and identified in these workshops.
On the development of Jammu city, the Chief Minister said besides measures to remove the menace of traffic jams on city roads and address the problems of haphazard growth and encroachment, many measures are already afoot.
“In addition to effecting 8-lane road width from B C Road chowk onwards and a huge flyover with modern structure and road capacity there, steps are also being taken to construct flyover from Bikram chowk”, he said adding that some people unnecessarily want to make issues out of non-issues and circulate rumours about development projects.
He said the government has initiated a mega project for artificial lake here which will attract large number of tourists and provide a handsome water body to the people of city.
