The Union Government has allocated funds towards the housing scheme for poor families in four municipal towns of Tripura. The sanction has been made under Rajiv Awas Yojana to construct small houses.
State’s Urban Development Minister Manik Dey informed that altogether 2,027 small apartments would come up in sub-divisional towns of Amarpur, Kumarghat, Sabroom and Khowai. Kitchen and toilet will be components of one-room house.
“We had proposed to take in Unkoti district headquarters Kailashahar, but the Centre has excluded it. Rs.3,39,000 would be spent on each of the houses,” Mr Dey informed.
To cost Rs.99 crore for the latest housing project in Tripura, the Union government has assured about Rs.78 crore. The State government would bear rest of amount under 80:20 ratio. Mr. Dey further informed that the State also received around Rs.10 crore under the National Urban Livelihood Mission for creating shelters in district headquarters.
Meanwhile newly-built 384 flats made for slum dwellers in Agartala are ready for allotment, he stated.
