The CBI has registered three separate cases related to the alleged gang-rape of a minor girl from Unnao, by an Uttar Pradesh BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and some others and the subsequent death of the victim’s father in judicial custody.
Mr. Sengar was detained by the CBI and is being questioned, officials said.
Sources said the questioning is going on at the CBI office in Lucknow.
The State government handed over the probe into the alleged gang-rape of the girl and the custodial death of her father to the CBI. The decision to hand over the case to the CBI was taken by the government after it examined the interim report submitted by a Special Investigation Team led by ADG (Lucknow) Rajeev Krishna on Wednesday.
The victim had attempted suicide outside the residence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Later, the State police had arrested her father who died in judicial custody with autopsy suggesting several injuries on his body.
The Uttar Pradesh government had referred the matter to the CBI which registered the case after getting reference from the centre on Thursday night.
