CBI grills Tripura Minister in Rose Valley case

June 29, 2017 10:18 pm | Updated 10:18 pm IST - Agartala

CBI officials questioned Tripura Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Bijita Nath on Thursday in connection with the Rose Valley chit fund scam. The firm is reported to have cheated public of hundreds of crores of rupees, until the SEBI cracked down on it.

Opposition parties have accused Ms. Nath of helping Rose Valley to expand its business in her home turf Dharmanagar in north Tripura. She has repeatedly denied the charge.

A two-member team of the agency, accompanied by a woman officer of the State police, spent an hour at the Minister’s office. The CBI had earlier sent a notice to Ms. Nath asking her to be present at her official residence to face questioning. It later changed the venue, mainly to avoid crowds and the media as her residence was located in the middle of the city, sources said.
