The Central Bureau of Investigation on Monday filed a charge sheet against the former Rajasthan Minister, Babulal Nagar, accused of raping a 35-year-old woman at his residence.

Mr. Nagar has been charged under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

If the charges against him are proved, Mr. Nagar could face 10 years in prison.

Mr. Nagar was arrested by the CBI on 25th October, 16 days after it took over the investigation from the Rajasthan CB-CID.

The CBI produced him before the Chief Judicial Magistrate court of the CBI on Monday.

In its charge sheet, the CBI has cited as many as 46 witnesses to be cross examined.

“It’s conspiracy”

Coming out of the court, Mr. Nagar told the media he was a victim of an elaborate conspiracy. “I had full faith in the CBI but I am disappointed because it did not even take into account the arguments I put forward,” he said.

Mr. Nagar criticised the Congress leadership for not backing him. “Senior party leaders should have come to my help... even when it was clear that I was a victim of a conspiracy, the party did not back me,” he said.
