CBI court frames charges against Ramdev’s aide

A special CBI court framed charges against yoga guru Baba Ramdev’s aide Acharya Balkrishna and Naresh Chandra Dwivedi here on Wednesday.

Mr. Dwivedi is charged with having supplied certificates to Mr. Balakrishna that were used by Ramdev’s aide to obtain a passport in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh.

Mr. Balkrishna, the CBI Assistant Public Prosecutor Shobhit Singh said, had been charged under Section 120 B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which dealt with punishment of criminal conspiracy, Section 420 of the IPC, for cheating and dishonesty, Section 468 of the IPC, for forgery, Section 471, for using a forged document as a genuine one, and Section 12 in the Passports Act, which deals with the punishment if forged documents have been used to obtain a passport.

The CBI filed an FIR following a preliminary enquiry.

On August 17, the special court passed an order to frame charges against Mr. Balkrishna and Mr. Dwivedi. Mr. Singh said the trial would start from December 5.
