CBI books Khadi officials for irregularities

Ten officials of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) here have been booked for allegedly committing irregularities to the tune of Rs.70 lakh by extending financial assistance to ineligible persons.

The accused have been booked under relevant sections of IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act for extending financial benefits to 54 ineligible persons under the Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme here, CBI sources said on Friday.

Booked

The accused include KVIC's Nagpur Director Sanjay Hedau, Assistant Director A. K. Bandhopadhyaya, Development Officer Sonkusre, besides one more official along with five rice mill owners.

Raided

A team of Central Bureau of Investigation anti-corruption wing raided the office and residential premises of these KVIC officials in Bhandara, Wardha, Kolkata and Mumbai and recovered some important documents, they said.

Flouting Rural Employment Scheme norms which require margin money at 30 per cent for projects upto Rs 10 lakh, KVIC officials extended benefits even to ineligible persons and projects costing more than Rs 25 lakh, they said.
