A team of CBI officials reached Berhampur on Wednesday to investigate a fake bills racket allegation in the Navy.
The four-member team from Bhubaneswar, with the support of local police, raided a printing press on Utkal Cinema road in the city, where fake bills were allegedly being printed.
The CBI officials seized computer hard discs, 14 master printing plates with which the fake bills had been allegedly printed, and documents from the premises of the printing press.
They also took away the son of the owner of the printing press for questioning.
When contacted, Berhampur Superintendent of Police (SP) Aniruddha Singh confirmed the raid by the CBI.
Port Blair officials According to local police sources, the CBI team was investigating a case of misappropriation of a huge amount of money by some officials of Navy posted in Port Blair in Andaman and Nicobar islands.
The investigation revealed that fake bills had been printed in Berhampur, so the Bhubaneswar unit of the CBI was entrusted to enquire and locate the concerned printing press.
It has been alleged that a person living at Gopalpur or Ambapua area in Berhampur police district was the catalyst behind getting the fake bills printed in the printing press and delivering them to persons who had used them.
The CBI team is also trying to ascertain the identity of this man and to nab him.
