The Maharashtra police on Wednesday registered a case against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray for revenge speech.
In his first election rally on Tuesday in Vidarbha’s Yavatmal district, infamous for a large number of farmers’ suicides, the MNS chief asked peasants to attack those responsible for their distress instead of committing suicide.
“We have obtained the footage of his speech and the matter is under investigation,” Superintendent of Police, Yavatmal, Ranjan Sharma told The Hindu .
Mr. Thackeray is said to have remarked: “Rather than killing yourself, attack those who are responsible for your condition. Those who committed atrocities against you, those responsible for such crime, attack them and then commit suicide if you want.
“Suicide can never be the solution to your problem,” Mr. Thackeray had added, while campaigning for his party’s candidate from Yavatmal-Washim constituency.
Mr. Thackeray has been booked under Sections 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 505 (Public mischief) of the IPC and Section125 of Representation of People Act (Promoting enmity between different classes).
