With Christmas around the corner, the cheerful sound of carols are in the air with many of the city's famous choirs lining up performances to spread the yuletide spirit. This weekend, the Capital City Minstrels (CCM) back from a tour of Europe has lined up performances to treat Delhiites to some classic carols that they have been known for. This year, the group plans to take listeners on a musical journey performing carols with a twist.
They will present haunting melodies narrating stories around the birth of Christ and some fun songs that evoke the sights and sound of Christmas.
The choir will perform a repertoire that includes rousing favourites like, “Carol of the Bells” to the haunting melody of Ruth Elaine Schram’s “Lullay Alleluia”, “Here we come a caroling” and “O Come all ye faithful” and the audience will be able to relive the magic of Christmas through songs like David Haas’ ‘You Are Mine’ and “The Hands that first held Mary’s Child’ by Dan Forrest.
Songs which evoke the sights and sounds of Christmas like Greg Gilpin’s “Ding-a-Ding-a-Dong” will have the choir mimic the sound of bells, while popular artist, Enya’s, “Amid the Falling Snow” would conjure up the beauty of a winter’s night. The CCM will also be joined for a part of the concert by the Mozart Children’s Choir of India and the German School Choir. The Christmas concert is scheduled at the India Habitat Centre on December 12. The Capital City Minstrels (CCM) is comprised of people from all walks of life – university students and professionals such as doctors, lawyers, architects, teachers, development practitioners, corporate executives and embassy personnel, of all ages and nationalities.
