Car runs into office-goers, killing 2 women, injuring 4

Two young women were killed and four injured when a speeding car hit them early Tuesday morning at the Santacruz Electronics Export Processing Zone (Seepz) in Andheri. The police have booked the 25-year-old driver of the car, Praveenkumar Kanaujiya, under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code and some sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. Police said he was not under the influence of alcohol.

Sangeeta Kanai, 19, and Rekha Konale died on the spot. They, along with their four friends, were walking up to their workplace in Seepz, around 6.45 a.m. when the car hit them near gate no. 3.

“The car was coming from Vikroli. It crossed the Jogeshwari Vikroli Link Road and was about to enter Seepz when it hit them,” an official at the Aarey Colony police station told The Hindu .

The names of the injured are: Manju Prabhakaran (26), Jayaragini (20), Anupriya Mutthu (22) and Sneha Wadekar (20). They have been admitted to the city’s Holy Spirit Hospital.

While Ms. Wadekar suffered a fracture on her leg, Ms. Mutthu suffered head injuries.
