Car hijacked on Jammu-Srinagar highway

A Srinagar-bound car has been hijacked by a group of persons on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban district following which a high alert was sounded in the state.

Some persons travelling in the car told the driver to get down and sped away with the vehicle on the highway in Ramban district on Tuesday, Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, Rajesh Kumar told PTI on Wednesday.

“There is no trace of the vehicle till now and police and security agencies are making efforts to trace the vehicle. Security agencies have been put on high alert”, he said.

The car bearing a Punjab registration number was being driven by one Karanveer Singh of Pathankot in Punjab and was hijacked by the group in Ramban.

Mr. Singh told police that the vehicle, which was on its way to Srinagar from Jammu, had four people on board.

Police, Army and other security agencies have been put on high alert in view of Independence Day functions in the state and all agencies are working to trace the hijacked vehicle.
