Car driver responsible for the accident at Kumbh mela held

Police has arrested the driver of the car, which hit pilgrims and resulted in a subsequent stampede during the last royal bath of Kumbh on April 14 in Haridwar that left eight pilgrims dead and several injured, police said on Wednesday.

Subodh Kumar, a resident of Gautambuddhnagar district of Uttar Pradesh, was arrested from Haridwar last evening. The police have also seized the car.

Eight pilgrims, mostly women, were killed, while 16 others injured in a car crash and consequent stampede during a procession of an Akahara on the fourth and last royal bath on Birla Ghat Bridge.

Meanwhile, a magisterial inquiry has also been launched into the incident.
