Capital Hospital will be developed as a post graduate institute in line of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, Odisha government told the State Assembly here on Friday.
In response to a query, State Health and Family Welfare Minister Damodar Rout informed, “the State government has in principle approved that the Capital Hospital will be developed as a post graduate institute in line of PGIMER, Chandigarh. Finance Department was requested to consider sanctioning fund requirement of Rs. 82.12 crore which was estimated by Chief Engineer (buildings.”
“However, as per advice of Finance Department, steps are being taken to present the fund requirement in shape of expenditure finance committee memorandum,” Mr. Rout said.
Health Department sources said to begin with PGI at Capital Hospital will have 20 seats in various streams including three seats in general medicine, surgery (3), paediatrics (4), obstetrics and gynaecology (4), anesthesia (2), radiology (2) and orthopaedics (2).
Similarly, the Health Department has also assessed manpower requirements for the new institute.
New faculty
As per estimate, nine new professors’ posts would be created while there will be 15 associate professor, assistant professor (34), senior residents (42), junior residents (39) and nursing staff (300).
Similarly, new departments such as anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, community medicine, pathology, microbiology and biochemistry departments will be opened.
The Capital Hospital is the largest government-run health institute functioning in Bhubaneswar.
With 552 beds, the hospital caters to population of 10 lakh to 12 lakh.
The premier government hospital has five intensive care units and approval has been granted for 11 new ICUs.
