In view of the sudden increase in the number of employees of the Manipur government there is fear that the state exchequer may not be able to pay their salaries on time.

When the number of the government employees had crossed 80,000 the government had banned all kinds of fresh appointments since salaries of these employees even could not be paid regularly.

However sources said that some departments have been making appointments in violation of the government order.

Most of the fresh appointees happen to be the casual workers, which are not covered by the government order.

Sources said that now the number of government employees is 1,52,726. In the past the state exchequer used to spend Rs 2597 crore on payment of salaries. However government is spending more than Rs 2703 crore per month for these employees.
