The Delhi Medical Association (DMA) has demanded speedy implementation of a recent Delhi High Court ruling banning practitioners of Bharatiya chikitsa or the Indian system of medicine, including Ayurveda, Siddha, Tibb and Unani medicine, from practising modern scientific system of medicine, including prescribing allopathic medicines.
The Association has demanded that the Medical Council of India (MCI) implement the High Court order barring Ayurveda and Unani medicine doctors from practising allopathy “at the earliest and in an effective manner”.
DMA president Rakesh Gupta said it is important to check the business run by quacks across Delhi.
“We urge the MCI and the Delhi Medical Council [DMC] to conduct frequent raids and file police complaints against defaulters,” Mr. Gupta said./
He added that doctors welcomed the High Court judgment.
“Now it is up to the MCI and DMC to take strict action against those violating the Court orders and to restrict Bharatiya chikitsa doctors from practising modern medicine,” Mr. Gupta added.
The DMA, which is an association of registered medical practitioners of allopathic system of medicine affiliated to the IMA, had earlier filed a petition in the High Court saying that practitioners of Bharatiya chikitsa in the Capital were prescribing allopathic drugs, thus jeopardising the health of residents of the city.
