By-election for the Uttarakhand Rajya Sabha seat which was vacated after the death of Manorama Dobriyal Sharma, Congress Rajya Sabha MP from Uttarakhand, will be held on March 20.

The nominations for the seat will start from March 3 and proceed till March 10, Section Officer under the Chief Electoral Officer Mastu Das said. The scrutiny of the nomination forms will be on March 11. And the last date of withdrawal of forms is March 13.

“The voting for the Rajya Sabha nominees will be held in the Uttarakhand State Assembly on March 20. Results will be declared on the same day,” Mr Das said.

Sources in the Congress, here, said that currently former Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna and Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Kishore Upadhyaya were in the race for the Rajya Sabha seat. However, there were chances that a Congress leader who is not from Uttarakhand gets selected for the seat by the party high command, sources said.
