Vasundhara Raje, who will be sworn in Rajasthan Chief Minister on Friday, is likely to effect a massive bureaucratic reshuffle in the State soon.
Top officials like Chief Secretary C.K. Matthew and Director General of Police Harish Meena — considered close confidants of former chief minister Ashok Gehlot — are likely to be replaced, along with key officials in other departments.
Mr. Matthew had gone on voluntary leave following allegations by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership that he was unfairly favouring the Congress government. He is likely to be replaced by 1978-batch IAS officer Rajeev Mehrishi, currently on deputation at the Department of Fertilizers, Union Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers.
Mr. Meena, brother of Union Minister of State for Finance Namo Narain Meena, had also gone on leave after being accused by the BJP leadership of working with political motivations. Officiating DGP Omendra Bharadwaj and Director General (Home Guards) Suresh Chaudhary are among the officials likely to succeed Mr. Meena.
