A seven-storey building collapsed on Thursday evening in Thane, in the neighbourhood of Mumbai, killing one and injuring at least 25 as per initial reports.

Lucky Compound on Thane-Mahape road near Shil Phata collapsed when construction work on the seventh floor was in progress.

The labourers are feared trapped under a pile of concrete.

Two vehicles of the fire brigade reached the spot and the administration called for four cranes to remove the debris.

The rescue work began with the help of locals, who have alleged that the building was constructed without any proper certification.

The Assembly, now in session, had discussed the issue of illegal constructions on this road belt in Thane.

However, no action has yet been taken on violators.
