Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat ridiculed the Union Budget on Thursday and called it “a disappointing budget.”

Mr. Rawat’s disappointment was due to the “sidelining” of the requirements of the State in the budget. Mr. Rawat had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June requesting the Centre to provide the State an aid of Rs 4,000 crore for the pending reconstruction and rehabilitation related works in the areas that were hit by the deluge last year.

The Rs 4,000 crore aid was in addition to the Rs 8,000 crore rehabilitation and reconstruction package that was approved by the UPA-II government.

Mr. Rawat had also requested the Centre for a budgetary allotment of Rs 2,000 crore as green bonus for the State. However, none of the requests were fulfilled in the budget, he said.

The budget, he said, was not for the common man as the needs of the rural areas have been neglected in it.
