Calling for amendment to the act to facilitate the entry of majority of Buddhists in the nine-member Bodh Gaya Temple Management Committee, LJP President Ramvilas Paswan on Monday said it was necessary for better upkeep of the temple of international fame.
“According to the law enacted way back in 1949, the nine-member management committee for the temples at Bodh Gaya comprised four Buddhist members and as many Hindus while the District Magistrate of Gaya would be the ex-officio Chairman of the panel,” Mr. Paswan told reporters.
Urging the State Government to amend the act so that majority of the members on the panel are Buddhists, Mr. Paswan said, “It has created lot of problems and confusions and affected the upkeep of the temple and compound.”
Besides, steps should also be taken to ensure that the DM, irrespective of religious identity, should hold the post of Chairman of the committee for better upkeep, he demanded.
“An early announcement from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is necessary in view of the visit of spiritual leader Dalai Lama to Bodh Gaya on January five,” Mr. Paswan demanded.
