BSF party ambushed in Manipur

The Naga People’s Army, the military wing of the Naga People’s Front, ambushed the personnel of 49 Border Security Force while they were patrolling Laikoi Ching in Senapati district on Saturday evening.

Four BSF personnel were killed and some others were wounded in the attack, Thomas Newmai, the assistant publicity secretary of the outfit said. However, another report said there was no casualty.

Insurgents opened fire at the personnel from the mountains and the BSF retaliated.

On hearing the gunfire, the terrified villagers fled the spot.

Meanwhile, Manipur Governor Vinod Kumar Duggal held a closed-door meeting with the Director General of Police, Saheed Ahmed, on Saturday.

The DGP is said to have briefed the Governor on the action taken by the police to control law and order problems in the State.
