The former West Indian international cricket player, Brian Lara, played a charity match here on Thursday to raise funds for Kedarnath disaster victims.
The match, organised by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the Dehradun-based Abhimanyu Cricket Academy (ACA), was held on the grounds of the ACA.
“The unfortunate tragedy in Kedarnath is something that touched our hearts,” Mr. Lara said. “I urge anybody with the means to come and support the [Kedarnath] cause. A lot of families have been ruined. As much funds and as much help in any way possible is needed.”
“I am here, and I will be back for sure. Hopefully, the next time I’m back I’ll come will some West Indian players,” he said.
Krishnarjun Walia, a student of the Dehradun-based Asian School, said it was great that Lara was here. “But we would have appreciated it even more if some Indian cricketers had got together to raise funds for the disaster victims.”
Shubham Duhan from the ASA who participated in the charity match said, “It was great to have played with Lara, but the presence of the Indian cricketers would have created a different impact altogether.”
