An 18-year-old youth has been arrested for killing his landlord’s son in South-West Delhi’s Sagarpur, the police said on Monday. Lakhan, the accused, allegedly perpetrated the crime to punish the elder sister of the victim, 12-year-old Prince, for spurning his romantic advances, said Nupur Prasad, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West).
“A case was filed on April 28 after the complainant, Dharmender, reported that his nephew Prince was missing. A day later, the dead body of the boy was recovered. Post-mortem revealed that he was strangled,” said Ms. Prasad.
The police team zeroed in on Lakhan who had stayed as a tenant at the house of the victim a few years ago. On interrogation, he confessed to having committed the crime, the police claimed.
“ Lakhan revealed that he had travelled to the Capital eight years ago from Uttar Pradesh and started living with his sister and brother-in-law, who were staying as tenants of the victim’s parents,” Ms. Prasad said.
“Lakhan had studied with sister of the victim and developed affection for her before shifting nearby which had not dampened his affection for her. However, she had spurned his advances and started avoiding him recently due to which he had developed a grudge against her,” added Ms. Prasad.
It was to teach the girl a lesson that Lakhan , according to the police, lured her younger brother to a secluded place on the pretext of a local excursion, and strangled him.
