Insurgents detonated a powerful China-made hand grenade at the residence of Prof S. Sekharjit, Director of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal, on Tuesday afternoon.
The director, his family members and others escaped unscathed.
The police have registered a case. There is no claim yet from any insurgent group about the bomb blast.
There have been a series of bomb blasts and planting of bombs in different parts of the college and administrative block previously. The hospital authority has been appealing to the armed insurgents not to vitiate the hospital atmosphere.
Various medical students from all over the country in general and NE States in particular are studying at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences.
