A 12-year-old boy from Kandhla in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh died by throwing himself against a moving train on Friday, apparently as part of the online Blue Whale challenge game. The boy, Nishant, had reportedly crossed 48 stages of the deadly game in which committing suicide is the final task.

According to the U.P. police, Nishant’s family was not aware that he was playing the online game. The family was informed by his friends after Nishant’s body was found on the railway tracks near Ailum railway station near Kandhla in Shamli.

His father Vinod, who is in a state of shock, told the media that Nishant did not have a mobile phone and was playing the game on his friend’s phone. He was playing the game with his two friends Vipul and Anant, who had crossed 28th and 23rd stages respectively.

Nishant’s death comes a month after the Centre asked all major social media and communication platforms to “immediately remove” links pertaining to the Blue Whale Challenge.
