Blast near Raj Bhavan in Imphal

One powerful foreign made bomb was exploded by remote control device near the southern wall of Raj Bhavan in Imphal on Saturday at 4 pm.

Some window panes of Social Welfare Board located near Raj Bhavan were shattered. One constable of 109 Central Reserve Police Force identified as T.J. Singh was wounded by the shrapnels. He was on guard duty of Raj Bhavan when the bomb was exploded.

No underground organisation has claimed responsibility for the blast.

There had been some bomb attacks at Raj Bhavan in the past. In one instance, militants managed to drive in a jeep laden with explosives deep inside Raj Bhavan. However the parked jeep was detected by security personnel before the bombs were detonated. Security measures have been beefed up. Police commandos immediately launched search operations and frisked all passers by. However no arrest was made.

Some bomb attacks had been made at the office cum residence of the Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh located a little distance away in the recent past. There is high alert in these localities with armed policemen and security personnel deployed there.
