One foreign-made hand-grenade was lobbed at a bakery in Kangjabi Leirak region in Imphal on Thursday night. The bakery “Baba Ganesh” is owned by Krishna Paul of Coochbihar, West Bengal.
Seven migrant workers were working in the bakery when the blast took place around 7.30 p.m. on Thursday. However, all of them escaped unhurt. Some portions of the bakery were pock marked by the shrapnels
Police rushed to the spot within few minutes. However, no arrest was made. Two migrant workers were killed and four others injured in a grenade blast on June 27th night at Uripok in Imphal. There has been no claim of responsibility from any insurgent group so far.
Village Defence Force personnel terminated
In another incident two personnel of Village Defence Force have been terminated from service. They were charged with opening unprovoked fire at the oil tanker drivers, injuring one Abbas Khan in the calf. The drivers were about to leave Imphal for fetching fuel from Assam through a bypass since highway-2 has been impassable following a landslip in Nagaland. The drivers agitated over the firing, refused to drive the oil tankers and called off their agitation only after the two personnel were terminated.
6 kidnapped by Kuki militants
Meanwhile suspected Kuki militants had kidnapped six persons including two engineers of Irrigation and Flood Control Department on Thursday evening from Pukhao in Imphal east district. They were returning to Imphal after inspecting the multi-purpose project at Dolaithabi. Two officials of a Kolkata construction company, identified as R.N. Sinha and Abhijit Sinha, are among the kidnapped persons.
