Around a dozen persons were on Thursday injured, four of them seriously, in a clash between the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and Youth Congress activists at the State BJP office here.
Shimla SP D. W. Negi said a clash occurred between the BJP and the Congress workers at the State BJP office and both the parties have lodged FIRs at Boileauganj police station, accusing each other of indulging in violence.
Four BJYM activists were injured seriously in the clash and rushed to IGMC hospital here, the police said.
BJP spokesman Ganesh Dutt alleged that about 200 Youth Congress activists, led by its State president Vikramaditya Singh, reached the State BJP office at Chakkar near here and raised slogans to protest against the Land Acquisition Ordinance promulgated by the NDA government.
The BJYM members, who were holding a meeting to review the membership drive, rushed out and a clash ensued, he said, adding that the Youth Congress workers were armed with sticks and indulged in heavy stone throwing.
Vikramaditya alleged that the BJYM activists attacked the peaceful Youth Congress demonstrators.
The BJP office was ransacked, windowpanes smashed and over two dozen workers were injured, Mr. Dutt said.
Four seriously injured workers -- Karan Nanda, Sunil Thakur, Inder Singh Thakur and Rajesh Sharda -- were rushed to IGMC.
Rajesh Sharda, who sustained serious eye injury, has been further referred to PGI, Chandigarh, Mr. Dutt said.
He demanded strict action against those indulging in violence or instigating workers to indulge in violence and arrest the culprits.
Later a delegation of the Youth Congress, led by Vikramaditya, submitted a memorandum to the Governor, addressed to the President, demanding withdrawal of the Land Acquisition Ordinance.
The memorandum said that the NDA government was by-passing the Parliament and adopting the “Ordinance route” to get the Bills passed.- PTI
