BJP workers clash with police

July 30, 2011 11:59 pm | Updated 11:59 pm IST - JAMMU:

The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday took out a demonstration and clashed with police demanding that the Central University Jammu (CUJ) be made functional soon.

More than 400 activists, led by the party's district unit president Rajesh Gupta, took out the protest rally from its headquarters in Kachi-Chawani in Jammu city.

Due to the prohibitory orders imposed in Jammu city, the police tried to prevent them from taking out the rally leading to clashes.

“The government should immediately appoint a VC [vice-chancellor] and make the Central University functional at the earliest,” Mr. Gupta told reporters.
