A BJP supporter died when party workers clashed with the police in Narhi area while protesting against the registration of an FIR against a fellow worker on charges of cow smuggling on Friday.
Twelve people, including Ballia ADM Bache Lal Maurya, were booked and a Sub-Inspector was placed under suspension in connection with the death of Vinod Rai.
Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Jha said that during a routine checking, five cows were recovered on Friday from a vehicle following which an FIR was registered against Chandrama Yadav and another person. Thereafter, BJP MLA Upendra Tiwari and his supporters, including Yadav, protested in front of Narahi police station against the filing of the FIR, he said.
