: BJP president Amit Shah here on Wednesday exuded confidence that the party would form the government on its own in Odisha in future.
“As far as the BJP’s performance in Odisha is concerned, the party has been very successful in raising people’s issues. Organisational capability of the party is being strengthened. I am confident that party will secure a majority in the coming Assembly elections and form the government on its own,” said Mr. Shah, concluding his two-day-long visit to Odisha.
“We will not require support of the Biju Janata Dal. We will take the fight to its logical end,” he said.
“In the past 14 years, Odisha has not developed as compared to other States. The rate of growth has dropped. Although Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik ruled with brute majority, he could not achieve the growth as was expected,” the BJP president said.
In the Chit-fund scam, more than 10 lakh people lost their hard-earned money, while those in power pocketed money generated out of the scam, he said.
Membership drive
In the morning, Mr Shah attended party’s membership drive at Dhauli, and inducted 129 members into the party. By doing so, Mr. Shah became the ‘active’ member from Odisha. As of now, total number of members enrolled by the BJP reached 3.21 crore in the country.
In Odisha, the saffron party had set a target to bring 40 lakh people into the party fold by March. Till date, 7.12 lakh have enrolled themselves as BJP members in the on-going drive. The State BJP claimed to have doubled the number of members enrolled in 2011 when it touched a figure of 3.68 lakh.
The State BJP managed to enrol 52,661 members on Tuesday coinciding with Mr. Shah’s visit to Odisha, which was highest as far as enrolment of members in a single day was concerned.
