The Bharatiya Janata Party will soon approach the President seeking recall of Maharashtra Governor K. Sankaranarayanan for refusing permission to the CBI to prosecute Congress leader Ashok Chavan, an accused in the Adarsh scam.
"The judicial commission appointed by the Maharashtra government itself has indicted Mr. Chavan, stating that he had given permission to Adarsh as quid pro quo. Despite such clear findings, why did the Governor refuse permission? BJP will move the Rashtrapati Bhavan against the inaction of the Governor to expose the murky involvement of Congress leaders in Adarsh, may it be of Sushil Kumar Shinde or Ashok Chavan," senior BJP leader Ravishankar Prasad said in Mumbai on Saturday.
He was speaking to the media to announce the party's decision to file a chargesheet against the Congress-led UPA government for its wrongdoings in the past decade. "We will come up with the chargesheet named dark decade of UPA government, by the end of this month," Gopinath Munde said.
The senior leaders targeted Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the Uttar Pradesh government on issues ranging from Muzaffarnagar riots, Aam Aadmi Party's anti-corruption tirade and electoral performance.
No tie-up with NCP
Mr. Munde refuted reports of a meeting between Narendra Modi and Sharad Pawar. He also dismissed reports of the possibility of alliance between NDA and Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party for the coming Lok Sabha elections. He alleged that Mr. Pawar himself spreads such rumours to pressurise the Congress. "He is a smart leader. During every election, he comes up with such rumours. Since Congress has been pressurising him for 17 seats, he may now be trying to put pressure back on Congress with such reports," Mr. Munde alleged.
AAP hypocritical
Accusing Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of "hypocrisy of the worst order", Mr. Prasad said that the Aam Aadmi Party lacked the maturity to become administrators. "Not naming Sheila Dikshit (in the list of corrupt leaders published by AAP recently) is the hypocrisy of AAP," he said, adding that the party will take legal action against AAP for naming BJP leaders in the list.
Expressing anger about the killing of a youth from Arunachal Pradesh in Delhi, he dared Mr. Kejriwal to take up the issue. "We strongly condemn the merciless killing. Mr. Kejriwal, will you sit on a dharna now for a son of Arunachal Pradesh now?" he asked, demanding an inquiry against the responsible police officers.
Talking about the performance of various political parties in the coming elections, he predicted the decimation of Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United) in Bihar.
He also targeted the government for failing to preserve the scrapped warship INS Vikrant. "Why is the Government of India playing with the sentiments of the Indians? INS Vikrant is a symbol of the bravery of the Indian soldiers. In other countries, such ships are converted into museums," he said.
