BJP suspends legislator

He reportedly threatened a medical officer

December 20, 2014 01:54 am | Updated 01:54 am IST - JAIPUR:

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday suspended Prahlad Gunjal, MLA from Kota (North) for reportedly threatening and abusing a Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) who refused to reinstate a male nurse who was shifted from a health centre on charges of corruption.

Mr. Gunjal ‘threatened’ the CMO, R.N. Yadav, with dire consequences and used unparliamentary language for refusing to comply with “his order”.

The decision to suspend the MLA was taken in New Delhi with Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu announcing that a show cause had been issued to Mr. Gunjal. The Rajasthan BJP president Ashok Parnami confirmed the suspension and said the decision had been taken in consultation with Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje. The CMHO had removed store in-charge nurse Vinod Maurya from the Moikalan Health Centre in Sangod block of Kota district after he was prima facie found guilty of misappropriating 2,000 tablets of antibiotics. Maurya is the brother-in-law of a BJP worker close to Mr. Gunjal.
