Keeping an eye on the 2012 elections for the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai, the Bharatiya Janata Party organised a rally of north Indians here on Sunday.

“Just like you made us victorious in Uttarakhand, Bihar and Himachal Pradesh, you should give us a similar victory in Mumbai elections too,” BJP leader Gopinath Munde said at the rally.

Other senior leaders including party president Nitin Gadkari, chief spokesperson Ravishankar Prasad, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Porwariyal Nishank, party's State president Sudhir Mungantiwar, national president of BJP Yuva Morcha Anurag Thakur addressed the rally.

Mr. Munde sought the blessings of north Indians and appealed to them to go to their home towns in Uttar Pradesh during the election there. “You should make us victorious in the Uttar Pradesh election as well,” he said.

Criticising the Mayawati government in U.P., Mr. Gadkari said that when the crime rate was so high and atrocities against women were on a continuous rise, Ms. Mayawati was busy erecting her statues. He charged the ruling government at the Centre with plundering the people of the country. “Whether it be the 2G scam or the black money issue, there is a loot going on in the country,” he said.
