The seat sharing between the Shiv Sena and its ally the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the Maharashtra Assembly elections would be finalised soon, Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray said here today.
“We are in the process of finalising the seat adjustments [and] it will be finalised soon,” Mr. Thackeray told reporters at his residence in suburban Bandra. There is no difference between the saffron alliance partners on seat sharing, he said.
“There are a couple of seats over which both the parties have staked claim but these would also be sorted out in a few days,” he said. The Guhagar seat in Coastal Konkan, which is currently with the BJP, is understood to be a stumbling block in the finalisation of seats between the BJP and the Shiv Sena.
The crisis in the BJP at the national level would not impact elections in Maharashtra as the Congress decisions taken here are not dictated from Delhi, Mr. Thackeray said.
During the 2004 Assembly elections, the Shiv Sena had contested 171 seats, while the BJP the remaining 117 seats in the 288-member House.
