Just hours after it was released, the Congress cornered the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Vision Document over a controversial reference to people of the North East residing in the Capital.
The party's campaign in-charge pointed out that the BJP had branded them as 'immigrants' on page 14 of the said document through the heading 'North Eastern Immigrants to be protected' before going on to detail a scheme of creating Special Cells at local police stations for their protection n addition to other steps.
“We, as a party, demand that the BJP apoligise for this attempt to alienate our brothers and sisters from the North Eastern states as outsiders,” Mr. Maken said at the release of the second instalment of the Congress manifesto for the upcoming Assembly polls.
Upping the ante, Mr. Maken alleged that the controversial reference underlined the BJP's vision broader vision for minorities for the year 2015.
“Sadly, this comes at a time when the Union Minister for External Affairs is in China; what is the BJP trying to prove? What point is it trying to make? Is our Minister of State for Home Affairs (MoS) who also hails from the North East an immigrant, an outsider, according to his own party?” Mr. Maken asked.
