Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of raking up issues aimed at dividing the society. He referred to the BJP as “chalu log” (street-smart) .
Referring to the Gorakhpur MP, Yogi Adityanath, albeit without naming him, Mr. Yadav said while there is talk of sending people to Mars, a “Baba” was indulging in issues like “love jihad” and conversions.
The Chief Minister was addressing a public meeting in Bakauli village in Sant Kabir Nagar district where he laid the foundation stone of a hospital on Wednesday. Mr. Yadav also unveiled a bridge over the river Ghagra at Birharh Ghat. On the law and order situation in the State, Mr. Yadav said steps were underway to enable the police to reach the spot within 15 minutes of the incident.
Stating that the Samajwadi Party government was committed to development, Mr. Yadav warned officials that laxity on their part would not be tolerated.
Mr. Yadav listed services such as “108” Samajwadi Health Service, the “102” National Ambulance Service, the laptop distribution scheme and the Samajwadi Pension Scheme as the achievements of his government.
He said the pension scheme would benefit 40 lakh beneficiaries from families below the poverty line.
