BJP leader booked for making objectionable remarks

BJP leader Daya Shankar Singh was late on Wednesday booked under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act by Lucknow police for his objectionable remarks against BSP supremo Mayawati.

An FIR against Mr. Singh was lodged at the Hazratganj police station by national general secretary BSP, Mewalal Gautam. Mayawatia-aide Nasimuddin Siddiqui led the entourage of BSP leaders to the police station.

Mr. Singh was also booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code--153A (promoting enmity between groups), 504 (intentional insult) and 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman).

Police said it would examine the CD of Mr. Singh's statement and take necessary action.

Meanwhile, outraged by the incident, the BSP will stage a huge dharna in Lucknow on Friday The administration fears the crowd could be massive.
