Ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly election, the Bharatiya Janata Party has withdrawn support to the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) in the Nashik Municipal Corporation.
The MNS, led by Raj Thackeray, bagged the Mayor’s post in the 122-member Corporation with the BJP’s support in 2012. The partnership has left the Shiv Sena, the BJP’s traditional ally, miffed.
“The MNS has not kept any of its promises since the time we helped its candidate Yatin Wagh become Mayor,” BJP legislator Girish Mahajan said on Tuesday. “Things haven’t improved even after the end of Mr. Wagh’s term. It’s high time we gave our candidate a chance.”
The two parties had an uneasy alliance in the civic body. Sources said with Assembly election in sight, the BJP and the Shiv Sena had to keep a united face across the State.
