The Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday demanded the immediate dismissal of the Congress government in Assam for failing to control Kokrajhar riots.
Faulting Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for ‘failing to stop the ongoing riots,’ spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said maintenance of law and order was the primary responsibility of a State government.
Had the government taken appropriate steps to ‘stop the influx of Bangladeshi migrants,’ this situation would not have arisen, Mr. Javadekar said.
“There is an ambiguity over the intelligence sharing between the State and the Centre as well. Mr. Gogoi says that he had no intelligence warning but the Union Home Minister says the State was given intelligence regarding possible tensions,” he added.
Mr. Javadekar said Mr. Chidambaram should come clear on the issue.
On recent tensions between the Nationalist Congress Party and the Congress, Mr. Javadekar said the episode was purely for personal gains for both the parties.
