The J&K BJP unit on Monday demanded a comprehensive employment policy for youths in the State and delimitation of assembly constituencies for ending “political discrimination” between Kashmir and Jammu regions.
“BJP has no hesitation in saying that the 63 years of independence have virtually proved meaningless for the youth of J&K as the successive State governments have totally failed to frame a comprehensive employment policy so far,” State party chief Shamsher Singh Manhas said here.
He was releasing a resolution adopted during the two-day State working committee convention held on April 17 and 18.
Even the present NC-led coalition government’s “Sher—e—Kashmir Youth Welfare & Employment Programme” (SKYWEP) has not proved effective, it said, adding the government itself has declared that 5.84 lakh unemployed youths were registered in employment exchanges in the State.
BJP feels that government should frame a comprehensive employment policy so that youth are absorbed in both public and private sector, the resolution said.
BJP has 11 MLAs in the 87-member J&K Assembly and no Lok Sabha MP from the State.
The State BJP chief said that various issues including delimitation of assembly constituencies and abrogation of article 370, were discussed during the convention.
BJP feels that immediate steps are needed to be taken for delimitation of assembly constituencies “to provide political justice”, he said.
The convention felt that Jammu region, having more population and geographical area, has only 37 assembly segments, while Kashmir valley with less population has 46 assembly segments.
The convention held that Jammu and Kashmir shall experience true and meaningful freedom only when it integrates with the Indian Constitution after abrogation of Article 370, which gives special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
It asked the government to develop tourism and agro-based industries in all the three regions of the State.
