The ruling Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) has decided to nominate its youth leader Binod Rai to contest the bypoll for Namchi-Singhithang assembly seat to be held on September 10, the SDF Publicity Secretary TN Sharma said on Monday.

Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling, who also happens to be the President of the ruling party, took the decision on Sunday night to nominate Mr. Rai as a SDF candidate to contest the bypoll for Namchi-Singhithang assembly seat, he told PTI here.

Mr. Rai will file his nomination later in the day, the last day of filing of nomination, Mr. Sharma said.

The bypoll for Namchi-Singhithang has been necessitated by Mr. Chamling’s decision to vacate the seat as he was elected from two constituencies in the assembly polls held in April this year.
