The Election Commission is likely to announce the dates for the Bihar Assembly elections shortly.

“We will take a view shortly,” a top official of the EC told The Hindu on Saturday. The requirement of Central police forces for the poll duty was being finalised. Polling may be held in three or four phases and the process may be completed by the last week of October, well before Deepavali and the Chhath festival.

A single-phase polling is ruled out given the threats from Maoists, who are present in over 16 of the 38 districts.
